SMMC brings together the men of the parish to help strengthen and support the parish family. The Mens’ Club provides services, promotes the spiritual and physical welfare of the parish, and financially supports both parish and school through various fundraisers and projects.  Most of our members have children who attend St. Matthew School, located on the grounds of the Parish. SMMC also has a number of members who have children that attend other schools, has members from different generations, and has members who do not even have children.  SMMC is open to male parishioners of St. Matthew the Apostle Parish 18 years or older.

SMMC has a number of fundraising events and each of these events are planned and coordinated by committees comprised of dedicated SMMC members and many other volunteers to ensure the success of these events.

Our year starts with our annual Teacher's Appreciation Dinner where 100% of the proceeds of this event assist the teachers with supplies and other items needed.  Our Annual Fall Festival, which takes place in October, has a selection of speciality food items, games for the big kids and little kids, local bands and many other activities for this 3 day event.  The Men's Club is also in charge of T-Ball & Soccer for boys and girls ages 3-6 years old in the parish.  We have the SMMC annual Crawfish Cook-Off usually held in April, where over 45 teams of cooks gather to boil crawfish to compete for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place awards and bragging rights to see who can boil the best-tasting crawfish.  And SMMC wraps up the year by having its annual Blessing of the Fleet and Fishing Rodeo where anglers compete for a number of different fish categories, but the "reel" focus of this event is for the kids where they compete for 1st through 10th place for everything from crab to the heaviest redfish.

Additionally, the club usually has a general meeting every second Wednesday of each month of the school year (check the events calendar for time and location) in the Monsignor Bendix Center (MBC) where we meet to give and discuss updates on the club and plan and coordinate events.

With the proceeds of these events, SMMC has completed a number of major projects for the parish and school over the years.  Projects such as:

  • Building the SMAC building to hold all of the supplies needed for the events;
  • Total refurbishment of the school's sports field including over 100 truck loads of soil, new grass, 1000 watt lights;
  • Installing a miniature NFL-rated field sprinkler system and lighting for the field;
  • Installing and paying for overhead projectors, smart boards, and white boards in each of the school's classrooms;
  • New lighting and fixtures in all classrooms;
  • Refurbishment of all six of the play areas and adding landscaping on the school campus;
  • Purchasing the beautiful Christmas Trees for the church's altar each year.

Additionally, proceeds were spent on replacing students workbooks, library books, and physically and financially supporting many other parish and school events and needs..
